About This Chapter
The scene opens on the platform three of the express train, where a man stands behind a stand selling food. He tells the mantaro, the head of the company, to stand behind the stand and not to eat. The mantaro tells him that he can't eat too much because he's so hungry. He says that the broth in the soup is too dark, and that if you water the soup down, it loses its flavor. He also says that if he eats too much, he will be selfish. The waiter tells him to apologize to the cook, who flavored the soup with his soul and heart. He then says that he'll pay the bill. The food is good, the waiter says, and the food is so good that he almost fell off his stool. He adds that his glasses are getting soft, and he won't be able to complain to the waiter any more. The boss comes in and says that there's a free lunch for the employees that day. He wants to know who cares if he has something planned for the next day, but the boss says that it's the president's business. He invites the boss to meet the president at the restaurant at 7 p.m.
