The other members of the party are eating so fast that they're not even able to keep up with them. They're so hungry that they don't even have time to eat. The only thing that keeps them from eating too fast is that the guy who's supposed to be running at the top of the food chain is running way too fast. He's not even close to being able to catch up to them, so they have to eat faster to catch him.
