About This Chapter
The next morning, Hosono wakes up in the middle of nowhere. He's not sure where he's been or what's going on. He doesn't know how to get to the bottom of his brother's crimes. He tells himself that he'll never be like his brother, who he thinks is an honest man. Hosho's a good man, Hosho says, but there's no way he could have committed such a crime. He says that Hosho has been framed for embezzlement by the superiors of the army, and Hosho was not involved in the crime. If Hosho tells his sister the truth, she'll be able to erase the Christmas massacre from the government's file. Hosino says that he can arrange for Hosho to meet with his superiors, and if Hosho breaks his promise, he can expect his sister to be the one who's taking care of the copter since Hosho isn't there yet. He also tells Hosho that he knows how rotten the country is, and that the only person he trusts is his father, who works to make sure that innocent people don't get caught up in corruption. He thinks Hosho is the only one who can trust Hosho, and says that's why Hosho committed suicide. He knows Hosho can't have committed a crime like Hosho did, because he was shot in the back, and the bullet hit Hosho instead of Hosho. But Hosho still thinks that his sister is a dummy, because she fired the same shot as Hosho when she was trying to kill him. He wonders if she realized that the weaker soldiers were still alive when she fired, and she should have fired a stun gun instead of a gun at them.
