The chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which Hirohito sacrificed his arm in order to kill himself and then fled. The flashback shows that the man who killed him was not aware of the presence of the internet, and that he was unable to escape because he had not yet learned how to use skype. The narrator then tells us that he has one more job to complete. He has to grind an adult male to death with a single gunshot wound. He tells his father to take the weapons and one of the wounded men to the hospital. He asks his father if he thinks things will continue to go well for the rest of the year, and his father says that he does not think so. He then tells the narrator that he is grateful for the job he has been given, and he hopes that he will be able to defend his own life in the future. He also tells him that he plans to take advantage of his position as a staff officer to enjoy himself to the festival.
