The next morning, the two men go for a walk. They talk about the previous day's events, and the young man says that he still does not believe that the old man is as evil as he said he was. The young man asks the doctor about his father, who is dying. The doctor tells him that the hospital does not have enough money to pay for his father's care, and that he will have to return the money the next day. He tells the young woman that the money was given to him by her father, but when he was withdrawing it, it said that it was from the card of the man who had given it to her father. She tells the doctor that she mistook the money for that of her father and that she will return it to the card that belonged to her uncle. She says that her uncle is not her uncle, but that her father gave her his card as well. He is not a "cold-blooded person," she says, and he is quite affectionate. The two men tell each other that they can be friends forever, even though they have never had a sexual relationship.
