In this chapter, the narrator tries to make friends with Zhang yang. He tells him that one of his classmates, who he calls "shen chun" , is the prettiest student in the class. She is shy and not talkative, and she is being pursued by a lot of men. The narrator tells him to get her a boyfriend and to ask her to walk in the back garden with him after school if he is rejected. He also tells her that if she is rejected, he will buy her dinner. He then tells her to kiss the girl without asking permission, and then he says that he will teach her how to get another boyfriend. He says that the girl is not an "since then" because she is too "overwhelmed" by Zhang's overbearing ways. He asks the vice president of the school to help him. The vice president tells the narrator that he has heard that some of the other students are picking on him, so he asked her to watch out for them
