In this chapter, Clouse tries to end the story as quickly as possible. He tells Jack that he's going to die, that Jack is crazy, and that they're not going to be happy if they live long enough to see Jack's death. Jack finally comes out of his hiding place and tells Clouse that he finally came to see him. Clouse asks if Jack remembers him, and Jack tells him that he does. He asks Jack to tell him the story of his life so that Jack can hear it for himself, and then he can listen to Clouse's story once Jack is gone.
