About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Detective Arugio's parents threw him out of the house because he was a vbondaga, a term used to describe a person who is not related to the owner of a business. The narrator tells us that the girl who attacked the librarian was the same girl who struck the narrator's friend, and that's why the narrator is worried about the girl. He tells the girl to go home and tell her parents what happened. He also tells her that he'll beat her if she doesn't leave the area where she's supposed to meet someone. He warns the girl not to go anywhere if she has any complaints, and he tells her to go back home and ask her parents to beat her up if she gets into trouble. He then tells her she can walk around the area and ask someone else to talk to the man who is supposed to pick her up, but he can't do that if the man isn't picking her up. She says she needs to go somewhere for a moment, and she just got a message from the pay phone at the bus station, where she can see the sign for the purple mart, the place where she was told not to wander on her own. The girl asks the narrator why it's been so long, and
