About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's not the only one who's bummed out by the fact that the kids are so stupid. He says that he used to be bummed out because he couldn't get anything out of life if he didn't have something to live for. Now, he feels like he has nothing. He asks Silvia if she's skating again, and she says no. He tells her to go skate so he can read this. Silvia says that she was shocked at how hard she was trying to skate. She says that her mom got angry and told her not to skate again if she wasn't going to be very careful. The narrator says that skating like that made him feel like he could ask the people around him without hurting his hand. He went to see who was good and learned things besides skating. Silvia is going to teach him how to be a better person. He's going home first, he says. Silvia will teach him more things, and he'll lose everything he has. He doesn't blame her for making him come back. He just feels bad that he got nothing out of it. Silvia reminds him that there are still a lot of people in the city who still care about him.
