About This Chapter
When the children find out that the father is the prime suspect, Vincent is there as well. He tells the children that he and the new inspector are not the same person. He says that when the children found out about the father's disappearance, they were not the only ones to disappear from the neighborhood. The new inspector, he says, was talking to Vincent, but he only looked at the girl. Vincent wonders if the man was the culprit, or if he was confident in his identity and could hide it even if he were seen. He asks the children to contact him at the school, but the girl says she will not be there later. She says that she never planned to come back to the village, but that the first day she came back, everything in her mind flooded back into her mind. She reminds the children not to go to the school until their parents come back. One of the skating officers at the rink remembers seeing a tall man wearing light clothes, who looked pale. The skating officer says that the man looked like he was watching the children. The children look at the last box of books, and Vincent says he is sure they will like it.
