About This Chapter
The next morning, Huck finds himself in the middle of a game of cards. He's worried that he's going to fall and hurt himself, so he prepares himself for the worst. He asks if Huck is okay, and Huck tells him that he is. Huck is bummed that he doesn't get to play with his dad, but he also feels bad that he didn't play with him earlier in the day. Huck tells Huck that he should have ignored his dad from the beginning, and that he would have been better off ignoring him now. Huck says that he needs a special child, and asks Huck if he likes him too. Huck replies that he does, but that it would be better if he had ignored him. Huck asks if he needs the help of cards to pretend that he did not see anything. Huck points out that Huck always seems to be outside late at night, which is why he needs to get up early to go to sleep. Huck reminds Huck that a grandma who used to be with the group used to say that she would run away, but she never did because she was afraid that the adults in the performance would find out about her death and bury her in their town. Huck wonders if he'll get into trouble if someone tries to make a fuss, but Huck says he won't. Huck thanks Huck for the food.
