About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that a child has run away from home. He asks the headmaster to take care of the children. The headmaster tells him that no one has seen the child since he left town two days ago. He tells the headmaster that he is selling the children as "drifters" . The narrator asks if he can find out who the child is and if they can contact each other. He says that he will be going to the university to get his acceptance letter and that his grandmother must be very proud of him. The teacher says that they can move the child to a bigger hospital if he graduates from university and gets a good job. He also says that if he gets a job with a better condition, they can afford to have his surgery at the hospital. He then asks about the other student who ran away from town. The man says that the girl has not been home for two days and that he has not seen her in two days. He is shocked to see her at a skating rink because he has never seen her before. He wants to find out what the girl's personality is like and if there is anything peculiar about her.
