In this chapter, Pat Regan delivers a soliloquy in which he reveals that he is the broker who got him the land deal with Ken. He tells Regan that the best way for him to get out of the mess he's in is to go deeper into it. He says that if he embraces the whole thing, he'll be able to deal with his enemies more easily. He warns Regan that if she doesn't embrace it, she'll end up in a lot of trouble. Regan reminds him that the whole Ken-Kinney thing was a drunken mistake, and that he should consider it done. He also says that he has the right to control what comes out of his club's affairs. He reminds Regan that he can't have anything to do with Ken's brother's murder because he'd have to forget about him
