The narrator pretends to be a prostitute and tells the prince that he'll break the glass in order to stall the meeting. The prince agrees to the plan, but warns the narrator to be on his guard. He also tells the narrator that the marriage deal is all up in the air, and that the imperial highness is on the side of the prince to get him what he wants. The guan tells him to knock on the door of the brothel and ask for the marriage contract, which is tucked away in a safe place. He then tells the men to slap him. The men slap him, and the narrator swears that he won't let them touch her again. He wants to see the contract, and then he wants to know what's inside the veil.
