In this short scene, we learn that Lingfan has been poisoned. The Queen refuses to let Lingfan into the palace to see his mother. He begs the King to send a team to find the herb, but the King refuses to do so. He orders two teams of guards to search the valley for the herb. Lingfan's mother is furious and tells the King that her son is also suffering from the toxin. She begs him to send the troops to the valley immediately. She also tells him that she has prepared medicine for his injury. The King's second son, the Second Son of the Minister of War, tells his mother that he has heard that the Queen has pleaded with the King for an army to search for some herb. According to the rumors, the King may not be able to save his son. The Second Son says that if Lingfan does not make it, he will most likely be named the next King.
