About This Chapter
The monk tells the audience that the girl has run afoul of the barbarous monk and that she has never been the same since. The monk wonders if this is because the monk has grown more attached to the girl. He asks the audience to forgive the girl's manners and to welcome him back to his side. He says that he will leave the castle for the lake in order to see the nunnery there. He is not afraid of the old monk, who is 72 years old. He laughs at the monk's joke and says that the old man will pass him on the road. The old monk laughs and grins and says he is not sure what the monk is plotting. He wonders if the nuns are on their way to the lake to become nuns, but the monk says that men are forbidden to touch the women. He then says that there is a group of nuns dressed as nuns on the shore of the lake. The men at the castle have ordered the guards to look at the women's faces. The women of the clan may also be among the nuns, and if they are among them, they should tie them up, bring them back, and tie the nuns to the castle. The monks wonder why the women are going to a lake during the dead of the winter. They think it is probably one of the local people who is on the boat with the nuns and the monk. They wonder if the women have seen them and are running away. They find a boat and go to find it.
