About This Chapter
Back at the post office, Urushido complains to his wife that he's tired of all the chanting at the train station. He wants to go home and sleep. He's got seven spears hanging from the roof of his lodgings, and he can't bear to leave them hanging there. He tells his wife to show him what's going on with the women, because he thinks they're playing tricks on him. He asks her to let him stay on the ground, but she refuses, saying it's too dangerous for him to stay there. She tells him to go to the roof and leave the spears hanging there, because there's a bad omen floating in the sky. He says he ate at the top of the roof at the same time as the priests, and they were chanting to ward off the evil omen. They're not allowed to chant in the station tonight, because the gods have forbidden them to do so. He swears to himself that he has found a place to stay tonight at a shrine, which reminds him of Takeda shingen.
