When the hired men arrive at the shrine, they are surprised to find that they have been hired to kill the six dolls. The tub-maker explains that the dolls have been sold and that they will need money to return to their homes in the country. He tells them that the owner of the shrine has asked him to deliver the tubs to the shrine. He explains that he will have to ask for the owner's permission to do so. He then tells the story of how the six paths lead to different worlds.
