The scene opens with a flashback to the beginning of the novel, in which the two young men are discussing the nature of their relationship. The young men discuss the fact that they can never be alone, and that the reason why they are so lonely is because they do not understand each other. The two men decide to take a break from their discussion, and the young men go off to look for the two vampire lovers.
