In this short scene, the protagonist tries to calm down his brother, who seems to be in a bad mood. He tells his brother to stop talking too much and to breathe slowly. He also tells him that he has the ability to control his heart beats and that this might calm him down a bit, since his brother and I share blood. The protagonist asks what happened to the other vampires who moved to protect their kin, and the protagonist answers that every instance was different. For example, edric almost killed an entire clan, but he managed to survive off of that man's blood. This shows that the protagonist has built up a lot of bad karma, which is why he wants to help his brother.
