About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn more about the vampire system. First, we're told that every vampire's kin is assigned to the system. This means that if a vampire loses his or her vitality, the vampire will be able to kill that vampire without having to kill the kin directly. This is a big deal, because it means that the vampire can control all the vampires in the world, even if they don't drink blood. We're also told that the only way to control a vampire is to kill him or her directly. Translation: if you're going to kill a vampire, you'd better kill the vampire first. But if the vampire is going to die, he or she should be allowed to live. Translation? That's what we've learned from the first two chapters of the novel. The point of the story is to show that there's no difference between a vampire and a human being, and that humans are just like vampires, just like humans. The only difference between the two is that humans have a right to love humans, and the vampire doesn't have a choice but to keep humans by his side, even when it means giving a mortal being an eternal life
