In this chapter, the students discuss the possibility of a battle royal, which is a type of combat in which a group of people fight against one another in order to gain an advantage. One of the students argues that the battle royal would be a good opportunity for the students in class a to "suddenly evolve or breakthrough in human beings" . The other student argues that this is not the case, and that the student in class b has already done enough to deserve punishment for his or her actions. The senior argues that he has already scolded the other student and hit her, and he begs for mercy, but the other students argue that he is just a "pest in our eyes" and that he should stop being arrogant just because he is in the top of the class. The students respond that they will not kneel, and they will fight the tenth graders in a royal battle. They argue that they need 95 people to propose such a battle, but they are unable to muster the required number of people. They are disappointed, but are determined to fight anyway.
