This chapter opens with a description of the heat detector, which locates a target and sends the signal back to the cockpit. The two combatants are engaged in a battle of wills, and the winner is determined. The narrator tells us that the main weapon of the Juggernaut is the Laser Gun, without which there is no combat advantage. The melee mecha of the juggernaut, however, is no match for the j8s. The j8 will lose, the narrator says, because of the "disguise in strength" . He tells the narrator that he had a "famous sniper" , but that he wasted his advantage in this match by not showing any of the skill in melee combat. He asks the narrator why he is in the private estate of the eldest young master. The elder young master tells him that his body is weak, and that he needs to "cherish his body more." The narrator says that the older master excels in everything, but his spiritual self-mutation placed too great a burden on his physical body. The older master asks the young master to take a rest in the "recovery pod," where he can learn the controls of the three basic mechas.
