"The smart dog" is the title of this chapter's opening scene. It begins with a description of a dog named Shiro, who works as a "smart dog" at an animal hospital. He is a smart dog, but he is also a "torturer hell" because he works with animals. He explains that he works in "animal torturer hell," meaning that he "works in animal torturers hell" . He says that there are two kinds of dogs at the hospital: "clink female dogs in a cage" and "pump breeding dogs kept by real sons, their out-of-wean pups whole lives." He tells his boss about the "pet boom" of the past few years, which has resulted in an increase in the number of abandoned pets. He tells the boss that he has to bite the dead "as hard as I can" , and he says that he likes the idea of working on the dead. He also says that the place is "un cheerful" because it is a "labor time to switch" of runaways. He notes that he must work three shifts a day and that he is tired. He notices that the smell of the place makes him "so curious sniff" that he just "plow relax." He also notices that his boss is "super nice" and that "hell's boss is super nice."
