In this chapter, we are introduced to a number of new characters, each of whom is introduced for the first time in the novel. The first person introduced is Clara, who is described as a "blue book" and a "thick album" . The second person introduces herself as Dante, and the third person introduces himself as Charles. We learn that Charles is in love with Clara, and that he has put the album on display in order to show off his love for her. We also learn that Dante and Clara are on their way to the Golden Tree Awards ceremony, which is to be held the following month.
