The next morning, Dr. Manette is still in the hospital. He's not feeling well, but he's okay. He asks to see Clara, who's in charge of his care. Clara tells him that she's worried about him, too, because she saw that he was really in love with her when they were in the middle of the scene. She's sorry, but she doesn't want him to see her. She wants to go home, but the doctor won't let her go. He tells her to go to the patient room, where she'll be able to talk to him alone. The doctor asks her to take care of the patient, and she agrees. She tells him to go back to his room, and the doctor says that's what he'll do. She asks him to tell her that the patient's going to be leaving first, so she can go to him. She says that she understands, and he agrees to go with her. He then asks her if she'd like to bring food to the hospital, and when she says no, he says that he'd rather be late than bring food. She then asks if she can see the patient still in bed. He says that, now that they're alone, there's something wrong with her, and that she should head in to the room where the patient is. She refuses to go into the room with him, saying that she wants to be alone. She also refuses to tell him who she knows about the secret love between her and Dante.
