The scene opens with a knock at the door. It's Clara's dad, Mr. Kong, who's just arrived from the hospital. Clara asks him how he got to the stage. He tells her that he went to the theater to audition for a director's show, but he wasn't good enough. Clara wants to know if he's been addicted to anything, like smoking, drinking, or playing a video game. Clara says that's fine, but if she were addicted to acting, she wouldn't be able to do it. Clara tells him that she likes acting, but that if her legs were gone and she couldn't act again, she'd feel like a silly girl. She asks him why he doesn't talk to Clara herself. He says that Clara is acting like a "disability dancer" , and that she's not talented enough to do the job.
