In this chapter, Ren tells the audience that he has been looking for Ren for thousands of years, but he has finally found her. She has been reborn as a princess in the underworld, and Ren has been able to see many familiar things in the world of the Xuanji, including the gate towers, the yellow dragon, and the white tiger. Ren explains that the four gods tried to kill him, but they were unable to do so. The gods sealed Ren's powers, cursed his soul into exile in another world, and took away his physical body. He tells Ren that before he can grow strong enough, he must remember that the road ahead will be even more perilous than it is now. Before he goes back to sleep, Ren will awaken part of his power in the soul. Ren asks the audience what happened to the phoenix. The answer is that the phoenix made a mistake, and was defeated. The four gods were conspiring for something, and killed the phoenix
