The narrator tells us that he's not supposed to marry anyone he likes, but he likes the kind of woman he likes. He tells us to look at the girl's eyes when choosing a concubine. He says that if he were a girl, he would want to marry the man who owns those eyes. The narrator says that the woman that he would marry must be "an extremely beautiful woman" with "strong spiritual powers" . The next day, a girl comes into the narrator's world and he wants to get her in bed with him. The girl is clearly not his type, but when he looks at the portraits of the concubines, she feels familiar. He thinks that the girl must have been using some kind of "witchcraft" to get him to marry her. He asks the girl why she's talking to him all this time, and the girl says that she just got into the world and is trying to figure out what his feelings are. The man says that he can give her whatever she wants.
