Even though he gives out chocolate to his students every year, Mr. Manette wants to give something back to his student, Valentine. He wants to make Valentine's Day "the real deal" by giving him some chocolate. He tells us that in Japan, it is a day when girls "give chocolate to guys" . He says that he's going to give Valentine some chocolate because it's "our first real deal chocolate" , which is a big deal in Japan.
