In this chapter, we are introduced to a number of characters who have been living together for many years. One of these characters is a cormorant named Anri, who has just returned from a trip to Europe. Anri is dressed in her best clothes and is ready to go to bed, but she is interrupted by the arrival of a tag that Anri has picked out for her. She asks Anri to come out of her room and let her know that it is her birthday, and that she has planned everything carefully. She tells Anri that she wishes she could have slept in longer, but that she is too lazy to do so. She also tells him that she would like him to take over as the leader of the group, but Anri says that she could still ask someone else to do the job, so that things do not happen again
