About This Chapter
In this second part of the story, we learn that the Egyptian king has been spying on his servant, the lapis lapis, and that he has asked the king to allow him to stay in his palace. The king says that he was a powerless prince five years ago, but now that he's the king, he can give him everything he wants. He says that if he were far away, he'd come right back and give it to his servant in a second, even if the request is ridiculous. He also says that now that the king is king, there's a certain contingent of people that he can't change. He's going to do it as opposed to the wishes of the king. In other words, the king wants to make sure that he doesn't have to change his plans in order to do what's best for the Egyptian people.
