In this scene, we are introduced to a young Egyptian prince named Badru, who has just returned from the battle at the border with Turkey. Badru tells us that the Egyptian army defeated the Turkish army, and that he is now the leader of the Egyptian troops. He is also the one who sent a message to the Egyptian king saying that he cannot lead the Egyptian forces because of the "coveting success" of the war.
