About This Chapter
The young master asks the young master if he is just a servant. The master replies that if he were a real servant, he could have a replacement. He says that he doesn't have the money to redeem the master, and that the master will help him to do so. He tells the master that he is loyal to the mansion and that he wants to be the master of the flower boat, but he is still a child. He adds that he knows everyone but his own heart, and he wants the master to be his master. He asks if he can understand the feeling that he feels, and the master responds that he can't understand it, because he is beautiful in the world, but that everything is mostly unsatisfactory in life. He then says that the most important things in life are to be happy, because if things satisfy peoples wishes, there'll be nothing interesting about life. The world, he says, is impermanent, and nobody knows what the next moment will bring. He wants to show his worth to the world by being a good person. He will make himself happy, then he will meet someone willing to let him protect her. He promises that he will have lots of good friends, brothers, and people who love him. He won't be lonely or sad, he will respond to the permanence of the world with pride. He loves his hometown, he loves his friends in the faraway place, and his love for his hometown will not change.
