In this chapter, we learn that the ship's captain, Feiersinger, was aboard his ship thirteen years earlier. He tells us that he has seen something inside the pyramid, and that he is not going to violate the code of secrecy. A team of divers has been sent to the pyramid to find out what has happened. He says that the door has remained open all along, which means that no one has been killed. He also says that Donovan has been trained to use this technique as a pilot. Donovan says that they have no idea where they will find the sunken leviathan. They have no way to maneuver the ship at this depth, he says. They know that the hatch is closed, but they do not know how to open it. They also know that they will not be able to get the ship out of the deep water. They do not have any way to get to the bottom of the tunnel. They are afraid that the tunnel is too deep for them to get out.
