About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that the monster is so powerful that the submersibles couldn't keep up with it, so they've got to find a way to get after him. The narrator thinks of his daughter, Kim, and wonders why they haven't been able to find the answer to the question of how humans came to be. He wonders why only two of the three submersibles have returned to the site, and he wonders why Kim hasn't seen her daughter since the attack. Kim tells him that the battery in one of the boats isn't strong enough to bring her back up, so she's going to have to go down in the water to get it. Kim thanks the narrator for not letting anyone harm her daughter, and the narrator thanks the father for keeping his promise not to let anyone harm Kim's daughter. He tells the father that the hunt for the monster has ended, and that a competing team has captured one boo before them. Kim says that he's shocked that they didn't complete the project on time, but he hopes they'll be able to refund him for the delay.
