About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn about the discovery of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It's believed that the reef was created about 4.6 million years ago, but scientists believe that it was created during the Holocene period, which occurred between 12,000 and 13,000 years ago. Professor Nobuaki of the University of Ryukyu tells us that he and his colleagues discovered a temple or ancient sanctuary at the reef in 1999. He says that the writing on the temple's walls suggests that an unknown civilization has lived there for thousands of years. He suggests that the castle may have been built by the Teutonic knights around the same time as the creation of the world. The narrator is sorry that they haven't yet filmed the monster, but he says that he still has one more trick up his sleeve.
