At the dinner table, Govinda asks his son to join him at the table so that they can "do your bidding here upon earth upon us" . Govinda is annoyed that his son has interrupted his father's prayer and that he has thrown something during the prayer that knocks over a neighbor's glass. He tells his son that he can either apologize for his behavior or he can forget about supper. He asks how long it will take for his wife to recover from her three years of illness. He says that he thought having someone his wife's age around would help her, but that she can't spend all of her time with only him and him forever. When Govinda asks what he wants to know about his mother, he says that she looks like a "scent" , but he doesn't know what it is.
