In this brief scene, we are introduced to the new messiah, who has just returned from the Crusades. He tells us that his body is not fully restored to its former glory, and that he is not a son of God. He asks the scholar why he has been forsaken by God, and the scholar replies that he has heard all of his prayers to God. The messiah says that he will not abandon the scholar, and promises to help him.
