In this chapter, we learn that Eunjo is trying to poison her father. The young man is horrified at the idea of his father being poisoned. He also learns that the mistress has power over everyone in the house, so she can switch the tobacco back and forth between the men and women. She also uses a cream on her face to make her skin "milkier" than it would be if she were in her mistress's position. She tells the young man that he should take the cream, as it would make his skin "far more attractive" than hers. She adds that she has had a close look at her and that her appearance is "solely based on her clothes" . She warns the young men that they must keep their cool, and that she will get rid of the man from them, but for now, she needs his help.
