At the gate, the mage learns that a magical girl manipulates memories. He can recover his own memories if he meets her. He also learns that the girl is a bubble-like creature, and that she has killed all the gate students except one. The mage realizes that he is sacrificing his own life in order to save the lives of others. He realizes that his sister is also at risk, and he decides to go to the gate to protect her.
