About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator tells us that he's not going to let his co-worker leave him alive. He wants her to know that she's pale and pale--he's never celebrated his birthday twice on the same day in his life. He also tells her that the show they're going to do tonight is going to be a "war radio drama" . The narrator says that the star of the show is a woman who has just killed a man who betrayed her and left her. He says that listeners are cynical these days, so they'll be able to figure out the ruse. He's also worried that they won't have enough money to pay for the show, since they don't even have a sponsor. He asks her if she has any good ideas. She says that she has a good voice, but she doesn't know what to say. She also says that women are just "wallets" to men, and that maybe, just maybe, she'll come out of her miserable life and be a better person.
