The chapter opens with a soliloquy by the narrator, who tells the reader that he is sorry to let his own selves in. He tells the audience that he and his son have not been able to find a place to live since they first arrived at the school. When the police took his wife away, they gave him an envelope with a usb stick and a picture of him with his address written on the back. Inside the envelope was a photo of the narrator and a note explaining that the cult had confiscated their license. The letter also contained a list of 50 photographs taken from all over the world. The narrator asks the reader if he would mind taking a look at the photos. He says that he will have the reader know that the photos were taken in all different angles. He also says that Hiromi does not remember anything from the pictures. He asks the narrator if he can clean his ears while he is at it, and the narrator replies that she is still on remand. He adds that he knows plenty about the situation, even from the written news about it. He thinks that lecturing people about their behavior will only make things worse. He then asks the audience if they have ever heard of "supported employment," which is a term used to refer to people who work for a living and are paid to do so.
