About This Chapter
The narrator introduces us to Minare Koda, the Host of "Mr. Kobayashi's Wave" . Minare tells us that he's just had a "shooting pain in his bladder" from nerves. He's not sure if he'll ever get to meet a comedian in person, but he wants to check out his favorite show. He asks if the guy's trying to "cheat on his wife again" , but Minare doesn't know what that means. He also asks if he means "joker." Minare says that comedians are "pretty spicy" working in the entertainment business, and that they jump from "chick to chick" at "supersonic speed." He also says that his script writer is a "crusty old man" who's a "hunch of a so," and that he would never dream of being a writer. He tells Minare that his daughter is the lead director of a local radio station, and Minare asks if they can just drive to the station. He says that's the way to go, and his daughter used to work there when he was a "hybrid senior." He says his daughter just beat him into thinking that "broad casting" is a one-way street, and it's hard to update your knowledge of the times. He thanks Minare for opening up his day for him, and says that he told his daughter to call him if something came up, but that it wasn't exactly what he meant. He wants to know if he has a "serious bone in his body." He'll have a drink run with Minare and kakuryu.
