About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that his father is an important politician in the International Littoral Government of Asia, which means that he has to keep a close eye on the use of magic in his household. He also says that there are no magical objects in his house, since they are forbidden to be used in politics. The narrator says that growing up under his father's wing, he would have come to share this point of view with his brother. Carl resisted the strict authoritarian teaching of his father from the start. He says that he loves his parents very much, and that he doesn't have feelings at all. He tells his brother that he will tell his father about the magic show, but that he didn't want to tell his parents before he went out, because he thinks that they will not be able to go to the show. He explains that the show is not allowed to take place anymore because the government is concerned about citizen safety, so they won't get to see another one again. He goes on to say that after he graduates from high school, he'll be attending a mage academy. He asks his brother if he'd like to try magic, and he says yes.
