This chapter opens with a flashback to carol's elementary school days. Carol is now a freshman at the elite boarding school, Karcia. She is the only student in class G, and she is bullied at school because she is not talented enough to be a member of the elite class. The narrator tells us that this is a common problem in elite boarding schools.
