The chapter opens with a conversation between Lin-wanqiu and his brother, the bookseller. He also tells him that the child he is going to have is the child of Madame Le and Lin wanqiu. The brother asks if Madame Le is still alive, and the brother replies that she is not. He then tells the brother that Madame Le's son looks younger than her, and that he should be her cousin. He asks the brother if he can borrow money from him, but the brother says that he can't, as he has already paid the hospital fee for him, and his bookstore is also a hospital fee. He says that the driver of the previous accident promised that he wouldn't talk about the incident, but that he could get out of prison after a year if he kept his word.
