In this chapter, we learn that the old woman was right when she said that the master was a watchdog, not a watchdog at all. The old woman's prophecy was correct, because the master is the boss, not the creature inside his body. The master tells us that the devil sent him to investigate the Red-Spider-Lily case because he knew who he was, and he still does this to him. He says that he's going to make a lot of money if he sends the master away. He also tells the master that if the woman returns to hell, she'll sue him to the government. The man says that killing the woman would push him to a "dead end" . He asks if there's a way to improve the master's cultivation level. The devil says that his powers are set since he came back from death, but that they're not likely to improve much with serious practice. The only solution is to go into the temple to collect incense and offerings, or use illicit methods. He tells the man that he was a "used up and destroyed guy" by him, but now he is the "sergeant" who controls his life and death. The woman called him a watchdog when he was alive, but she was right, he says, because he is holding a "great fortune" and he can embezzle it.
