About This Chapter
It's been a while since we've seen the narrator, and he tells us that he feels like his body is "different" and "bitter and sharp" . He's not sure what's going on, but he does know that he's in love with a guy named Misaki. Misaki has asked him to help her find a way to get back to Japan, and the narrator feels like he has to do something to help him. He buys some of Misaki's play lists, thinking that if something happens to him, he'll be able to play them with Misaki, even though they're not with him. The narrator thinks that meeting Misaki made him strong, and that meeting him made him happy. He wonders if Misaki felt the same way, too, and wonders if love is "outrageous" for her. He says that he would never have fallen in love if he didn't have a crush on someone like Misaki , so he can't imagine how she could feel the way he does. He also wonders if she meant that he might find something deeper in the play list, which is why she's so happy. She's right, he says, because love is like a "fall-click creak excuse" , and it's hard to take it back. He thinks that maybe Misaki was just trying to give him a piece of paper, but that he kept taking it out and putting it back in the case.
