About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that lately he feels like someone is watching him. He says that he's been looking for a new job, but that's not what's keeping him from finding a new one. He's worried about his grandmother, who has been visiting him every day since he lost his dog in school. He hopes that she'll be happy to see him, too, because he'll make her feel better. The narrator then tells us a little bit about his life before the government notice. He was arranged by a matchmaker, who told him that he and his future wife would be a nice match. The matchmaker was a "grouch" , the narrator says, who "never let it show" . He would always "rise to the occasion" and be there when times were tough . So he'd like his children, their children, and their children's children to be like that.
